(Abridged Director's Note)
Peacock Player’s production of Disney’s Pinocchio drives the concept of Commedia dell'arte through an old Italianate puppet show. Acting styles, mask work, costuming, and a bit of puppetry pays homage to this theatre history influence.
I feel it was important to play with this concept because I found it beneficial throughout my training as a theatre maker. I discovered a new kind of “play” behind the mask that I really wanted my students to have in their education experience.
The story of Pinocchio lends itself to be one that anyone can relate to - the idea of making a wish, telling a lie, and what happens as a resultof both. We lie for different reasons. While it is not always the right choice we always learn a lesson.
